Oululainen heavy/stoner rock -poppoo Heimia muistuttaa minua Stereochristin ja Truckfightersin sekasikiöstä. Vokalisti Ticu Korhoselta löytyy äänenpalkeita ja asennetta esiteltäviksi, ja bändin metallisen ärhäkkä ote stoner rock -sovituksiin tukee vokalistin ilmaisua mainiosti. Ticun matalammat vokaalit eivät ole aivan yhtä vakuttavia tai dynaamisia kuin ylärekisteristä lähtevät voimalliset kirkunat. Tämän demon kappaleista heikoimmaksi jää Before I See It, jonka säkeistö on pakotettu ja lepsu; kertosäe puolestaan atonaalisen iskemätön. Dick In Your Mouth Sonia ja Bitter Worldia kuljettaa mukavasti eteenpäin täysi tankillinen testosteronia. The Call jää väliinputoajaksi ollen hieman väritön veisu ennen loppupuolella tapahtuvaa pientä nostatusta. Outron kulmilla kappale löysäilee vielä kertaalleen. Hell Yeah sen sijaan nousee kahden ensimmäisen raidan peesiin tiukasti, joskaan ei aivan samalle tasolle.
Yksi iskevyyttä nostattava tehokeino olisi paneutuminen sanoitusten ja sanavalintojen toimivuuteen ja groovaavuuteen. Vielä tällä hetkellä suuri osa sanoituksista tuntuu olevan väkisin yhteensovitettuja musiikin päälle sen sijaan että ne sulautuisivat yhteen luonnostaan. Vokalistin ja bändin välille jää siis tietynlainen intuitiivisen tilannetajun mentävä aukko. Vähän kuin bändiläiset eivät vielä täysin tuntisi toisiaan musiikillisesti ja soitannollisesti. Hyvä esimerkki lyriikoiden soljuvuuteen on vaikkapa AC/DC. Stoner rock -kentältä voisin mainita John Garcian vokalistina, jolla on laulullista groovea vaikka millä mitalla. Vielä kun itse kappaleiden sovituksiin kiinnitetään vähän enemmän huomiota, niin ollaan jo paremmalla mallilla. Sitä ennen on kotiläksyjen aika, pojat.
Oulu's heavy rock stoners Heimia remind me of a bit of Stereochrist mingled with Truckfighters. Vocalist Ticu Korhonen really lets loose with some major attitude in his screaming vox, and the band backs him up with metallic fury packaged in stoner rock arrangements. Ticu's low-end vocals aren't quite as strong or dynamic as his screeching and forceful vocals. Of the songs on this demo Before I See It comes off as one of the weaker numbers with a forced and bland verse and flat, atonal chorus. Dick In Your Mouth Son and Bitter World both roll along nicely with a full tank of testosterone. The Call is also a middle of the road number, somewhat colorless until it picks up towards the end where it gets better until it drops off back to where it shouldn't have gone anymore towards the outro. Hell Yeah comes off as a pretty good number, but not as good as the first two tracks.
This band could really improve their ballgame with more catchy verbatim/lyrical fare/lyrical groove. Right now, it feels as though much of the lyrics are forced on top of the music, not melding naturally. Perhaps a certain intuition is missing in the arrangement of the songs between the band and vocalist? Hard to say, since I don't know the band, but this might be the case. Look at AC/DC as a positive example of lyrics that groove with the music. John Garcia is another fine example from the stoner rock field who has that groove as a vocalist. Add to that a bit more thought into the arrangement ofthe actual songs and voila - mucho better! Homework time, boys. |
