Tässäpä jälleen yksi superbändi, joka koostuu tällä kertaa Josh Hommesta (Queens Of The Stone Age, Kyuss, jne.), John Paul Jonesista (Led Zeppelin) ja Dave Grohlista (Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Probot, jne.). Siinäpä kokoonpanoa kerrakseen! Vaikka Them Crooked Vultures on voimakkaasti QOTSA-vibainen tapaus, on bändissä kuitenkin jotain erilaista - mutta ei kuitenkaan liian erilaista.

Them Crooked Vultures on monivivahteinen, oikeasti vaihtoehtoinen rock-yhtye. Mind Eraser, No Chaser on siisti raita, jonka voisi nostaa jopa sinkuksi. Dead End Friends erottuu takovan ja tunnelmallisen melankolisen rytminsä vuoksi. Reptiles on kaikessa laiskassa rentoudessaan ja siistissä svengaavuudessaan jälleen yksi hyvä ja uniikki raita. Kaiken kaikkiaan levy ei kuitenkaan ole mitään easy listening kamaa. Them Crooked Vultures on monivivahteisuutensa lisäksi kokeellinen bändi, minkä vuoksi levyä pitää kuunnella toistuvasti sitä ymmärtääkseen. QOTSA-meininkejä askeleen pidemmälle menevä Them Crooked Vultures on samalla haastavaa ja mielenkiintoista kuunneltavaa.

Another supergroup comes down the pike, comprised of Josh Homme (Queens Of The Stone Age, Kyuss, etc), John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) and Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Probot, etc). Talk about a line-up! While Them Crooked Vultures  are heavy on the QOTSA vibe, there's still something different about them - but not all that different, if you get my drift.

Eclectic to be sure, Them Crooked Vultures is alternative rock in its purest form. Mind Eraser, No Chaser is a nifty cut, and perhaps could be a single track from out of the mix. Dead End Friends stands out due to its pounding and moody melancholic rhythm. Reptiles in all its lazy easygoingness, alongside its cool shuffle is another good and unique track here. Overall though, this stuff is not easy-listening material. Them Crooked Vultures are experimental in addition to being eclectic, and in so saying it takes many listens to try and get into their music. Taken a bit further than QOTSA, Them Crooked Vultures is challenging but interesting at the same time.
