Mangoo on uusi suomalainen stoner rock -bändi, joka itse kuvailee itseään "fuzz popiksi". Selkeää ilmavuutta näiden heppujen musiikissa onkin, mitä avitetaan etenkin koskettimien tuomilla pop-elementeillä. Jos luot mielikuvan hieman Angel Dustin aikaista Faith No Morea, myöhempää Monster Magnetia ja Queens of the Stone Agea sekoittavasta ryhmästä, olet lähellä Mangoon tyyliä. Kenties bändin suunnasta työntyy sieraimiini myös pieni ruotsalaisen Truckfighters-katku.

Only Silver erottuu edukseen tarttuvan kertosäkeensä ja tasaisen rytminsä ansiosta. Myös Birds of Preyssä on voimakas kertsi, josta voi haistaa isoa potentiaalia, jos biisi vain kantautuu oikeisiin korviin. Viskikurkkuinen vokalisti Pickles kuulostaa varsin vakuuttavalta, vielä kun häneltä kaiken lisäksi puuttuu se suomalaislaulajille tyypillinen englannin kielen intonaatio. The Bad Habitissä Pickles kuulostaa jonkin verran Blaken Aaro Seppovaaralta, mutta tämä on lähinnä poikkeus laulujen yleislinjasta. The Shit liukuu äänen putkistoissa kuin tasainen vana sitä itseään, eikä biisi olekaan paskempi!

Mutta fuzz pop? Kenties sillä pop-vivahteita levyltä kyllä löytyy. Toisaalta löytyy siltä myös aimo annos fuzz rockia, ja tämä jälkimmäinen albumia mielestäni enemmän määritteleekin. Lätyltä löytyy pari ässäbiisiä, mutta myös joitakin keskinkertaisempia paloja. Kokonaisuus jää kuitenkin plussan ja suositeltavuuden puolelle.

Mangoo is a new Finn stoner rock band that boasts itself as being ”fuzz pop”. There is a definitive airiness to these guys, which is aided in part by keyboards that aid in the pop element of their music. A bit of Angel Dust era Faith No More intertwined with latter day Monster Magnet and Queens of the Stone Age might give you an apt direction in terms of these guys. I believe I smell a bit of Sweden's Truckfighters in this band also.

Only Silver is a standout track with it's catchy chorus and steady rhythm. Birds of Prey also has a very strong chorus line that smells big time potential, should the right influential people stumble across this slab. Vocalist Pickles sounds rather convincing without that typical Finnish vocalist intonation for the most part in his English output, aided by a cool whiskey-soaked voice. On The Bad Habit Pickles starts to sound like Aaro Seppovaara from Blake, but this is an exception and a tweak in the overall vocal approach. The Shit glides its way down the aural pipeline like a steady stream of the aforementioned, making for good listening, even when on the loo!

Fuzz pop? Maybe, but pop sensibilities for sure. A good deal of fuzz rock too, as overall that's still the name of the game. A few really good tracks on this one, and some middle of the road numbers. A good listen though, and something I would recommend checking out.
