Joidenkin bändien kohtalona on näkyvyyden ja hypen suhteen yksinkertaisesti tippua ulos kartalta, ja yksi tällainen bändi on ehdottomasti Pro-Pain. Kun kerroin eräälle ystävälleni arvostelevani uuden Pro-Pain-levyn, sain vastaukseksi hämmentyneen "en tiennyt että he ovat yhä pystyssä", mikä kertoo tilanteesta kaiken oleellisen. Kaikesta huolimatta pitelen käsissäni No End In Sightia, jonka sisältö onkin varsin tanakkaa tavaraa.
Pro-Painin kymmenes studioalbumi pitää sisällään bändin melodisinta materiaalia tähän asti. Etenkin Hour of the Timea ja All Risea on siunattu kertosäkeillä, jotka nostavat biisit melodioiden osalta esiin hyvinkin positiivisessa valossa. Let the Blood Run Through the Streets ja Halo osoittavat bändin kuitenkin pitävän kiinni myös tyypillisemmästä Pro-Pain-soundista. Myös Cannibal Corpsesta tutun Rob Barrettin kera esitetty Phoenix Rising kuuluu tähän kategoriaan, ja onkin yksi levyn huippuhetkistä. Muutamassa muussa biisissä, kuten God's Willissä, melodiat eivät kuitenkaan ole yhtä vahvasti esillä, mutta tämä on toki vain oma näkemykseni.
Kaiken kaikkiaan kyseessä on erittäin hyvä levy, joka osoittaa bändin jatkavan valitsemallaan polulla. Levy on toki melodisempi kuin moni bändin aiempi levy, mutta hyvät melodiat eivät missään tapauksessa kyseenalaista bändin raskautta.
Some bands suffer the seeming fate of dropping off of the proverbial map in terms of visibility and hype, and one such unit can be arguably seen as Pro-Pain. After telling one of my friends that I was reviewing the new Pro-Pain album, he commented ”I didn't know they were still around”, which pretty much says it all. Nonetheless, No End In Sight is here and it's a very solid listen.
Pro-Pain's 10th studio LP effort showcases some of the band's most melodic material to date. Especially songs like Hour of the Time and All Rise are peppered with choruses that stand out in a very positive light melodically. Songs like Let the Blood Run Through the Streets and Halo again represent more typical Pro-Pain output. Phoenix Rising (with Rob Barrett of Cannibal Corpse) is another classically-flavored Pro-Pain track, and one of the standouts here. There are a few songs where I don't feel the melodies are as potent, as in God's Will, but then again this is just an objective opinion.
All in all a very good album, and right in line with the Pro-Pain sound. More melodic overall than many albums in the past, but the melodies here are pretty good and the heaviness isn't compromised in the big picture.
