Turisas sai aikaan melkoisen myrskyn Battle Metal -debyytillään ja tulivat samalla luoneeksi samannimisen genren.
To Holmgard and Beyond on ensimmäinen single The Varangian Way -albumilta, jonka tämän biisin perusteella uskoisin pitävän fanit tyytyväisinä. Suurta, rohkeaa ja bombastista, jotain sellaista, jota voisit kuvitella viikinkilaivalla laulettavan matkalla kohti pohjoisia valloituksia. Samalta levyltä poimittu toinen biisi, A Portage To The Unknown on massiivinen, sing-a-long-potentiaalia sisältävä taistelumetalliveisu, joka hiljentää hiukan tahtia ja sisältää myös maittavaa laulantaa Nygårdilta tavanomaisen ärinän sijaan. Sinkun eksklusiivibiisi on suomalainen versio Rex Regi Rebellisista. Myös tämä kappale puolustaa olemassaoloaan tällä julkaisulla, kenties myös itse albumilla.
Pohjiksi sinkku sisältää vielä livevideon Battle Metal -biisistä vuodelta 2006. Tämä todella osoittaa, kuinka loistava bändi Turisas on. Studiossa on helppo loistaa, mutta myös livenä tämä bändi hallitsee yleisönsä virtuoosimaisesti.
Turisas created quite a storm, with their debut album, 'Battle Metal',It even created a genre of the same name.
To Holmgard and Beyond', is the first single from the album, 'The Varangian Way', and sees a similar style that won fans over on the debut album. Big, bold and bombastic, the kind of song that you could imagine a ship full of vikings singing on their way to a norther conquest. The other song taken from, 'The Varangian Way', 'A Portage To The Unknown', is a massive sing-a-long dose of battle metal, that slows things down and features some rather tasteful singing from, Nygård, rather than his usual rough and gruff growls. The 'exclusive' song here, is the 'Finnish version' of Rex Regi Rebellis'. Well worth inclusion here and perhaps worthy of a place on the album.
Finally there is a video of the Turisas anthem, 'Battle Metal', live in 2006. This really does show just how good a band Turisas really are. In the studio they are of course brilliant, but it's onstage where they really come alive and simply blow the audience away.
