Irlannista meitä tervehtii hard rockin viimeisin kovin toivo, The Answer. Irlannista on aikojen saatossa toki tullut Thin Lizzya ja muitakin puolitunnettuja nimiä, mutta tämän uusimman vientituotteen uskoisin kasvavan HUIKEAKSI menestykseksi! Kavereilla on nimittäin kasassa tiukka paketti - viheliäisen dynaaminen vokalisti, super-tiukka rytmisektio, huikea biisinkirjoitustaito, ja jopa se häilyvä, mutta elintärkeä X-tekijä paistaa yhtyeen tekemisistä.
Voimallisin kiinnekohta The Answerissa on vokalisti Cormac Neeson, joka on kuin klassisen hard rockin kulta-aikojen kultakurkkujen uudelleenruumiillistuma. Tästäkin huolimatta äijä onnistuu kuulostamaan riittävän uniikilta. Biisien kuten Under The Sky ja Come Follow Me pitäisi riittää vakuuttamaan ankarimmatkin kriitikot tämän kaverin tyylistä ja taidoista. Miehen ääni ei ole pelkkää viskiraspia, vaan myös ääniala on huomattava, eikä äänestä puutu voimaa tai värikkyyttäkään. Uskoisin hänestä muodostuvan loistavan keulahahmon nimenomaan livetilanteessa - Robert Plant olisi saanut parhaina päivinäänkin tehdä täyden työn tämän kaverin päihittämiseksi. Classic Rock -lehti on jo nimennyt yhtyeen vuoden 2005 parhaaksi tulokkaaksi bändin Keep Believin' -EP:n perusteella. Nyt yhtye esittelee huikean debyyttinsä Risen. Albumilta on helppo irrottaa koko nippu huimia singlevalintoja, ja myös tämä kertoo omaa tarinaansa The Answerin epäilemättä hohdokkaasta tulevaisuudesta.
Levyn ainoa heikkous on sen tarkoituksellinen kaupallisuus. Menestyksen kannalta tämä on luonnollisesti siunaus, mutta joillekin meistä se saattaa tuupata yhtyeen laidan yli massakulutuksen valtamereen (vähän kuin G'n'R Use Your Illusionilla upean, raa'an ja iskuvoimaisen Appetite For Destructionin jälkeen). Bändi tähtää näemmä kuitenkin korkeuksiin, joissa puun lehdissäkin on kuolleiden presidenttien kuvia. The Answerille on joka tapauksessa melko mahdoton olla kumartamatta. Levy sisältää yltäkylläisesti herkkua kaiken potentiaalisen loanheitonkin edestä. Suositellaan ehdottomasti kaikille klassisen rockin ystäville.
Hailing from Ireland, hard rock's newest and truest kids on the block are donned The Answer. No longer just the homeland of legends Thin Lizzy and a few more obscure artists, Ireland's newest export is one that I predict will be HUGE! Really, these guys have a rock solid package - wicked and dynamic vocals, super tight rhythm section, classy songwriting aptitude and the elusive "X"-factor, all roled into one.
The biggest proponent of The Answer lies in its vocalist Cormac Neeson, who is a throwback to the good old days of hard classic rock, yet he manages to sound unique. Songs like Under The Sky and Come Follow Me should suffice to convince even the most stringent critic of this man's style and panache. With a fabulous whiskey rasp and a considerable range, Neeson is both powerful and colorful. I can only imagine this guy being a stand-out frontman live, akin to Robert Plant in his heyday. Classic Rock magazine already has crowned these boys as the best newcomer of 2005 based on the strength of their intial EP Keep Believin', and this album entitled Rise is their brand, spanking new LP debut. The sheer number of singles releases from Rise already should convince anyone listening that big things are in store for The Answer.
Perhaps the only drawback here might be the commercialism of the release. Whereas this might really be a blessing, it can also be viewed as an intentional foray into the less-than-true waters of mass consumption (kind of like G'n'R with Use Your Illusion after the stellar, raw impact of Appetite For Destruction). In other words, this commerical aspect could be very premeditated by the band and its producer(s), knowing where the cash cows feed in their lush pastures of green. Nonetheless, The Answer cannot be denied. Just too many strong points and arguments to outweigh any possible negative dirt-digging. A big thumbs up and highly recommended for any afficianados of classic rock.
