Huipputason soitannollisesta toteutuksestaan huolimatta Machine Menin edellinen albumi Elegies ja omat makuhermoni eivät tuntuneet kohtaavan. Siksipä nyt käsissä oleva sinkkujulkaisu tuntuukin kuin suuhuni olisi viskattu jalopenoja - polttaa! Lyhyesti sanottuna nämä äijät ottavat ison harppauksen eteenpäin erinomaisen No Talk Without The Giantin myötä.
Äärettömän tarttuvan liidimelodian ja upean kertosäkeen voimin No Talk Without The Giant nousee melkoisiin korkeuksiin. Pirteä tempo pistää metallipään tutulle kiertoradalle, ja kaikki osat biisissä tuntuvat sopivan kokonaisuuteen kuin Väinö Linna 20 markan seteliin. Siis hyvin. Sinkun muut raidat, 'Til The End Of Her Days sekä akustinen uudelleensovitus vanhemmasta October-veisusta, tuntuvat väkisinkin täytematskulta No Talk Without The Giantin muodostaman kliimaksin jälkeen.
'Til The End Of Her Days on melko tunnelmallinen ja moniulotteisempi kuin itse nimibiisi, eivätkä rallin ideat kannakaan sitä läpeensä täydellisesti. October puolestaan on yksinkertaisesti ulkona omasta makumaailmastani. Toki se toimii miellyttävän rauhoittavana suvantona muistuttaen minua viime aikojen Queensr˙chesta. Koska kyse on kuitenkin sinkkujulkaisusta, painotan arvosanassa nimenomaan sen nimiraitaa. Kunnia sille jolle se kuuluu.
While Machine Men's last album Elegies did next to nothing for my tastes, regardless of it's top notch musicianship as I felt the songs were much too convoluted for their own good, this single on the other hand has my ears burning! A definitive step up for these boys, the single track No Talk Without The Giant is excellent.
Slapped upside the head with a super-catchy lead and fabulous chorus melody, No Talk Without The Giant is a keeper. The upbeat tempo keeps the metalheads happy in Fanland and fits the bill like good ol' George Washington, all things considered. Fill-in tracks 'Til The End Of Her Days and an acoustic reworking of October from an earlier release are both consequtively anti-climactic after listening to No Talk Without The Giant.
'Til The End Of Her Days is more moody and multi-facteted/multi-dimensional than the single track and a tad too long for its own good. October on the other hand, does little for me. While serving as a nice, relaxed calm amidst the storm, October feels reminiscent of latter day Queensr˙che in many respects. Since this is a single release, the reflecting grade is directed toward the single itself and not to the filler tracks on this slab.
