Ruotsin retrorokkariposse The Quill yltää viimein niihin korkeuksiin, mistä bändin aiemmat tekemiset ovat antaneet lupauksia. Oli In Triumphin kansitaide sitten kuinka laimea tahansa, on levy musiikillisesti huippuluokkaa. Tällä levyllä bändi esittelee käytännössä pelkkiä ässäbiisejä. Soundeiltaan In Triumph on tanakasti tuotettua, ja muutenkin levy osoittaa bändin kurssin olevan selkeästi noususuhdanteessa - jos ei sitten suosion suhteen, niin vähintään taiteen näkökulmasta.
Kenties muutokset kokoonpanossa ovat ampuneet bändin nousukiitoon, sillä avauskolmikosta Keep The Circle Whole - Yeah - Slave/Master lähtien hyvää tavaraa tulee sisään ovista ja ikkunoista. Jokaisessa kappaleessa näyttäisi olevan huimasti draivia ja tarkkaa rytmiikkaa - osa-alue, joka ei aiemmilla Quill-tuotoksilla ole ollut aivan hallussa. Huippurallit kuten Triumph Is A Sea Of Flame esittelevät bändin henkisen vahvuuden ja sielukkaan syvyyden. Bändillä riittää asennetta ja kyvykkyyttä isompiin ja parempiinkin ympyröihin. Ainoa kysymys onkin, mikä tätä bändiä pidättelee. Mikä lukko heidän täytyy vielä murtaa, jotta nousu seuraavalle tasolle olisi mahdollinen? Siinäpä kysymys huippukuntoiselle The Quillille vastattavaksi.

Swedish retro rockers The Quill have finally come up with what I consider to be their finest hour to date. While the coverart to In Triumph is bland as all hell the music is absolutely great. This time around the band has pulled off nearly top-notch numbers all the way around. Sound-wise In Triumph is very solidly produced and this album clearly marks a continuation in the upward swing of this band if not popularity-wise then at least creatively.
Perhaps changes in the band's line-up have triggered a change for the better as from opener Keep The Circle Whole to Yeah to Slave/Master an onward the good stuff just keeps pouring in (or out, depending on how you look at it). It seems as though there is a clear drive and underlying solid rhythm in every song, which hasn't quite been the case with previous Quill outings, through and through. Standout songs like Triumph Is A Sea Of Flame showcase a strong sense of spirit and depth of soul. The attitude is here as is the aptitude for bigger and better things profile-wise. The only question is what is holding this band back? What is the lock that they must open to ascend to the next level? That's a hard one indeed as The Quill on target this time around.
If you like a retro vibe to your heavy rock with a keen sense of groove, excellent musicianship and an awesome vocal range, In Triumph is a keeper and should most definitely be added to your collection.
