Riihimäen oma Calmsite hoitaa hommansa, rokkaavan deathmetal-vokaaleilla maustetun metallisoinnin kiitettävällä energialatauksella. Hienot riffit, hyvin rakennetut biisit ja fiksut sovitukset saavat aikaan erittäin tyydyttävän kokonaisuuden. Typerän ja harhaanjohtavan kansitaiteen voi antaa anteeksi, sillä muilla osa-alueilla Calmsite ei petä. Ehkä ainoan lommon tähän risteilijään aiheuttaa se, ettei bändi varsinaisesti tarjoile mitään vallankumouksellista ja mahdottoman omaperäistä, mutta eipä sekään tätä levyä häiritsevästi haittaa.
On hämmästyttävää, kuinka suuret levy-yhtiöt tänä päivänä haaskaavat aikaa ja varoja täysin mitäänsanomattomiin yhtyeisiin - ja samanaikaisesti uudet, tajunnanräjäyttävät bändit julkaisevat levyjään pienten indielafkojan kautta. Mitä pyhäinhäväistystä! Kuka täällä on oikein puikoissa, häh?
Calmsitella puolestaan tarjottavaa riittää. Todista vaikka Date With The Bladesin tai Dive Into The Bottom Of The Barrelin houkuttelevat kertosäkeet tai jälkimmäisen mainiot kitarakoukut. Halleluja, tässä on taas yksi bändi, jonka massojen toivoisi löytävän. Levyn yhdeksästä laukauksesta yksikään ei mene ohitse, joten lätty säilyttää tuoreutensa mainiosti kovassakin kuuntelussa.
Kunhan vain pojat hommaavat jonkun oikean ammattilaisen suunnittelemaan seuraavan levynsä kannet, jotta paketti herättäisi kiinnostuksen myös visuaalisesti. Muutoin homma onkin jo hanskassa. Livetesti bändin tosin vielä pitää läpäistä.
Riihimäki's own Calmsite is damn good at what they do, which is play very rocking metallic something or other with death metal vocals and intense energy. Great riffs and solid songwriting, well-built structures and smart arrangements make for a very satisfying package. Aside from the shitty album sleeve which is very bland and somewhat misleading, Calmsite cannot be denied. Perhaps the only minus here is that Calmsite doesn't offer anything revolutionary or incredibly original, but once you hear this outing those factors won't bother you.
It's amazing that in this day and age there are specific bands who have next to nothing to offer (that shall go unnamed) who garner recording deals with noteworthy labels. Then there are bands on very small indie labels who rock the house down and next to no one knows about them. What a travesty! Who runs this mess anyway?
Calmsite definitely has lots to offer. Witness the great catchy chorusline to Date With The Blades or the addictive guitar hooks and melding chorus to Dive Into The Bottom Of The Barrel and become a believer today that here awaits another band that needs to be "discovered" my the masses. Not a single bad track out of a total of nine and this slab manages to stay fresh in the CD player time after time.
Guys, get a real artist to design your next album sleeve and find a visual catch to your product. Otherwise the package sounds very good. The acid test would be seeing how this band performs live.
