Britannian Mistress on ruma ilmestys. Oikeastaan erittäin ruma, ja tarkoitan tätä nimenomaan hyvässä mielessä. Bändin sludgehtava debyytti ei oikein iskenyt meikäläiseen, sillä se ei yksinkertaisesti esitellyt hyviä biisejä. Yhtyeen toinen albumi, In Disgust We Trust, onkin monin verroin edeltäjäänsä parempi esitys. Sanotaanko näin, että Mistress on repinyt sivun Entombed-manuaalista ja parantanut reseptiä ehkäpä 80:lla prosentilla!
Eihän bändi ole minnekään sludgeilua unohtanut, mutta se ei kuitenkaan ole enää pääosassa. Sen sijaan Mistress tarjoaa jykeviä riffejä ja groovia, joihin kuuntelijan on helppo tarttua. Sisältääpä In Disgust We Trust bändin tähän mennessä hitikkäimmän biisinkin, nimittäin Staticin, jonka kertosäe on lähes göteborgilainen. Laulu on monipuolista; on vihaista murinaa, korkeampaa, veren hyydyttävää kirkumista, ja onpa mukana myös hieman melodisempaa vokaalilähestymistä, jota ostava yleisö osaa varmasti arvostaa. Levyn instrumentaalinen päätösraita, Shovel, on tosin aika turha, enkä ainakaan itse saa siitä mitään irti. Suurin osa materiaalista on kuitenkin nopean aggressiivista - kuin Helvetin Enkelit kostoretkellä konsanaan! Yksinkertaisesti sanottuna tämä albumi on kuin King Kong pahalla speed-tripillä, sillä tämä jättiläinen pistää yhtä varmasti irtaimiston säpäleiksi.
Äärimmäisen ruma kansitaide tekee oikeutta musiikin rumalle sanatulvalle, ja täten In Disgust We Trust onkin erittäin suositeltava kuuntelukokemus. Jos diggailet bändejä kuten Entombed, Napalm Death ja Brutal Truth, saat olla aika helvetin tyhmä karttaessasi tämän. Näin on, maan matoset, marssikaas levykauppaan siitä. NYT!
UK's Mistress is one ugly mother. I mean mega-ugly and in a good way. Their first album wasn't really my thing as it featured lots of sludge but little in the way of really good tunes. This second album entitled In Disgust We Trust is leagues better then it's predecessor. Let's say that Mistress has taken a page out the Entombed handbook and improved, oh, about 80%!
Yes, the sludge is still there but it's not the driving force or the main emphasis of the music. Instead Mistress offers us some sturdy riffs and grooves we can sink our molars into. In Disgust We Trust also features the band's most commercial song to date, that being Static, with its near Gothenburgish chorus. Lots of vocal variation from angry growls to high-pitched screams of bloody horror to very brief spells of clean melody offer more meat on bone for the buying audience. The last track Shovel is purely an instrumental without much purpose as I didn't really get much out of it musically. Most of the material is fast and aggressive as a pack of Hell's Angels on a retribution trip, baby! To put it best this album is like King Kong on speed suffering through a
double bad overdose as everything around is levelled to smithereens.
With ultra-ugly cover art to justify the equally ugly musical tirade within, In Disgust We Trust is highly recommendable listening. If you like bands like Entombed, Napalm Death and Brutal Truth you'd be a monkey-assed jibrone to pass this one up. March to the record store, worm...MARCH!
