Siitä onkin aikaa, kun stoner rock -bändi on iskenyt minuun kuten oudohkosti nimetty ruotsalaispoppoo Truckfighters tekee. Nämä hemmot todella taitavat stoner-tyylin, eikä fuzz-pedaalin käytössä, tarttumapinnassa, saati trippailevassa atmosfäärissä täten säästellä. Yhtämittainen matka ympäri Gravity X:n uloimpien kiertoratojen auttaa ymmärtämään levy hienona kokonaisuutena. Levyä kuunnellessa kannattaa todella rentoutua ja kääntää volyyminamikkaa hieman myötäpäivään, minkä seurauksena huikea matka on valmis alkamaan.

Huippubiiseissä löytyy: on Kyussin makuista Desert Cruiseria, järjenvastaisen melodisesti trippailevaa Momentumia, QOTSA:n rullaavuuden mieleentuovaa äänivallia nimeltä Freewheelin' sekä uuden ajan stoner rock -klassikoksi nousevaa Truckfightersia. Sokerina pohjalla on albumin tähtihetki Manhattan Project loistavine koukkuineen ja melodioineen (samalla biisi tuo myös etäisesti mieleen QOTSA:n). Vielä kun vaihdot kappaleesta toiseen toimivat huomaamattomasti, voi levyä pitää yhtenä isona avaruuskakkuna, jonka parissa ei tarvitse käyttää vippaskonsteja tunteakseen olevansa pilvessä.

Kyseessä oleva genre huomioiden levyn tuotanto on erinomaista. Fuzz-riittoisat soundit ja isonkuuloiset rummut sopivat lätylle kuin vaikkapa se nyrkki silmään, eikä albumilta täten löydy selkeitä heikkouksia. Jopa Jack Kirbymainen (tunnettu Marvel Comics -taiteilijana), camp-henkinen kansitaide on kaikessa yksinkertaisuudessan loistava. Taas kerran on kyse stoner-liitännäisestä, kohdallaan olevasta tyylitajusta. Levy on tyylikkäästi indie.

Erinomainen, tutustumisen arvoinen albumikokonaisuus. Truckfighters edustaa stoner rockia parhaimmillaan, vahvimmillaan ja tyylikkäimmillään, ja tästä yksinkertaisen hienosta saavutuksesta bändiä on pakko onnitella. On se vain niin hieno levy.

It has been quite awhile since a Stoner Rock band made such an impact on me as the oddly named Truckfighters from Sweden. These guys play Stoner Rock right, with fuzz galore and spaced out textures and trippy atmospheres that can only be fully appreciated upon a non-stop voyage through the outer limits of Gravity X. You've gotta really sit back and tune out when you listen to this stuff, as only then will you really get sucked in for the ride.

From the catchy, Kyuss-flavored opener Desert Cruiser to the moody, absurdly melodic trippiness of Momentum to the QOTSA-like rolling barrage of Freewheelin' to album hilite Manhattan Project with it's superb hooks and melodies (another distant ode to QOTSA in a way) and catchy guitar lead Truckfighters is an instant Stoner Rock classic. Add to this a slick transition from song to song, making the album feel like one big space cake and you won't need weed to get high on Gravity X.

The production is excellent when taking note of the genre in question. The fuzz-laden sound and massive drums fit the music to a "T" and there is nothing that I would pinpoint as a weak spot on this album. Even the campy, Jack Kirbyish (early Marvel Comics artist) sleeve artwork in all its simplicity makes the grade. Once again, it has everything to do with the fittings of the Stoner Rock genre. This is indy, yes, but brilliantly so.

An all-around excellent album and definitely something worth picking up. Truckfighters feature the definitive strengths of Stoner Rock at one end of the spectrum and they should be applauded for that one simple achievement. Just great.
