Narnian Christian Rivel on koostanut Ruotsin hevariarmeijan kunnioittamaan yhtä historian legendaarisimmista glam-yhtyeistä, The Sweetiä. Kokoelma on nautittavaa kuultavaa, sillä matiä omenoita ei kappaleiden joukkoon ole päässyt, vaan jokainen cover-vetäisy on joko keskiverto tasoa tai sitä parempi.
Toiset yhtyeistä ovat päättäneet coveroida The Sweetiä orjallisesti yks' yhteen ja toiset puolestaan ovat lisänneet soundiin omatkin mausteensa. Levyllä on tekijämiehiä mm. yhtyeistä Hughes & Turner, Grand Funk Railroad, Kiss, Europe, Yngwie Malmsteen, Narnia, Candlemass, Jeff Scott Soto ja monista muista nimivahvoista ryhmistä, joten jo esiintyjistä tietää, että ei tämä ihan paskaa voi olla. Parhautta tarjoavat JK's Allstar Experiencen Sweet F.A. (bändissä tuottaja Johan Kihlberg rummuissa, Kruxin/Therionin/Yngwien Mats Levén laulussa ja ex-KISS Bruce Kulick kitarassa), Modest Attractionin (Rivelin Narniaa edeltänyt yhtye) Burn The Flame, Darkwaterin Shot Down In Flames, Stonecaken The Sixteens ja Tell The Truth, jonka esittää House Of Shakira.
Kuten Ronnie James Dio jokunen vuosi sitten Metalliliiton haastattelussa totesi: "Uskon, että silloin aikanaan kirjoitettiin parempia lauluja", tämäkin tribuutti todistaa, että ellei ihan naulan kantaan, Dio osuu ainakin hyvin lähelle totuutta. Hyvät kappaleet ovat ajattomia ja vanha kaarti teki musiikkinsa juuri niin, kuin se pitää tehdä. The Sweet According To Sweden on erittäin hyvä kokoelma ja aivan varmasti painonsa arvoinen taskurahoissasi.
Narnia's Christian Rivel has amassed the metallic forces of Sweden to pay tribute to the Sweet, one of the legendary glam rock bands in history. I really enjoyed this disc overall, as there are no lemons on it and every cover is either everage, good, or great.
Some bands have chosen to cover The Sweet to the letter while others have added a bit of their own spice into the sound. This release sees the talents of members from groups like Hughes Turner, Grand Funk Railroad, Kiss, Europe, Yngwie Malmsteen's band, Narnia, Candlemass, Jeff Scott Soto and many other top-notch acts so you know this ain't gonna be crap! Top picks go to Sweet F.A. by JK's Allstar Experience (producer Johan Kihlberg on drums, Mats Levén from Krux/Therion/Yngwie on vox, Bruce Kulick ex-Kiss on guitar), Burn The Flame by Modest Attraction (Rivel's old band, predating Narnia), Shot Down In Flames by Darkwater, The Sixteens by Stonecake and Tell The Truth by House Of Shakira.
Like Ronnie James Dio said a few years ago on Metalliliitto, "I believe that better songs were written back then (back in the day)", and this tribute proves that observation to be close to if not dead on the head of the nail called truth. Good tunes are timeless and the old guard made music right. A very good compilation and definitely worth the weight in pocket change.
