Troublella on aina ollut erityinen, oma soppensa allekirjoittaneen sydämessä, joten täysin puolueettoman arvion kirjoittaminen saattaa osoittautua hankalaksi. Siltikin, yritän tehdä sellaisen yhtyeen kolmannesta albumista Run To The Light.
Trouble on yhtye, joka musiikillinen huippukausi sijoittuu sen aktiiviuran puoliväliin: neljännelle ja viidennelle albumille tullessa heidän kappalerakenteensa ja sanoituksensa olivat jo melkoista tiedettä. Run To The Lightin aikaan Trouble oli vielä vasta matkalla mestariluokkaan, ja albumi uhkuukin tukevaa tulivoimaa klassikkobiisien Run to the Light, The Misery Shows ja Thinking Of The Past muodossa. Albumin todellinen upeus tulee parhaiten esiin suosikkikappaleeni Thinking Of The Past raivoisassa kitarasoolossa, joka on hemmetinmoinen emotionaalinen matka, joka nousee korkeuksiin kuin lentokone ja vie keskelle lumoavaa raemyrskyä ennen rauhoittumistaan. Pelkästään kappaleen soolo on silkkaa parhautta.
Väittäisin, että levyn alkupuoli on sen loppua parempaa tavaraa, kuten A/B-puolien suhteellisuusteoria yleensä sanoo. Levy ei ole Troublen paras, mutta ei kyllä huonoinkaan ja erityisen merkittävä se on kahden edeltäneen Trouble -kiekon (Psalm 9 ja The Skull)doom-linjoista eroavuudessaan. Run To The Light on keskeinen Troublen perinnön rakennuskivi, joka kannattaa ottaa talteen, jos sen jostakin vielä tänä päivänä onnistuu löytämään.
Trouble has always held a special place in this reviewers heart, so a truly unbiased review might be a little hard to compose. Nonetheless, we shall try with a hard and hefty look at Run To The Light, the band´s third full-length disc.
Trouble is a band that peaked mid-career, honing their lyrical and structural output by their fourth and fifth albums to a sweet science. Yet, in Run To The Light, Trouble was still in the process of making the journey to mastery and this album wields some mighty powerful firepower in classic hymns like the title track, 'The Misery Shows' and 'Thinking Of The Past'. The true beauty of Run To The Light comes to the fore in the shredding guitar solo contained in 'Thinking Of The Past', the song in question being my favorite on the slab. Just a hellacious emotional ride that lifts off like a lear jet and takes you through a hailstorm of rapture before setting back down; this solo is a masterpiece in pure simplicity alone.
I would argue that the first half of the album is much better than the second half, hence your A-side/B-side relativity theory. Not their best, but most certainly not their worst, Trouble´s Run To The Light is also noteworthy in it´s departure from the rather doom-laden offerings of it´s two predecessors (Psalm 9 and The Skull). A necessary building block in the Trouble legacy, and one worth picking up... if you can find it nowadays.
