Uuden Poison Arrow -levymerkin ensimmäinen tuotos esittelee yhtyeen Perfect Chaos, jonka musiikki on samoilla leveyspiireillä kuin The Haunted, mutta silti kaukana Slayeristä.
Levyn äänitys jättää toivomisen varaa, sillä sen miksaus on jäänyt varsin heppoiseksi. Laulut on miksattu liian pintaan, eikä vokalisti ole tarpeeksi monipuolinen tai dynaaminen, jotta ratkaisu toimisi yhtyeen eduksi. Tämä ei tarkoita etteikö vokalisti olisi hyvä, hän on vain kovin yksiulotteinen, ja lisäksi yhtye voisi opetella kuinka sanoitus saadaan virtaamaan musiikin mukaan. Breed Hate: Steer Fatea kuunnellessa ja lyriikkoja lukiessa tulee tuntu, että sanat on vain lätkäisty musiikin päälle uhraamatta ajatustakaan laulun musiikkiin sovittamiselle.
Musiikki on raivoisan aggressiivista, mutta ne kappaleet puuttuvat, jotka nousisivat yli muiden. Toisin sanoen, aika tasapaksua lättyä tässä tarjoillaan. Ja kuten sanottua, ei tässä vielä Slayer -kategoriassa toimita. Soitanto toimii, eikä korvaan osu häiritseviä mokia.
Annetaanpa ajan kulua. Hemmoilla vaikuttaisi olevan raaka-aineet hallussa, mutta ainakaan vielä alkuun ei ole ihan selvillä kuinka ne tapporallit kirjoitetaan.
The first offering from new label Poison Arrow features Perfect Chaos, which resides somewhere in the same latitude as The Haunted but still far away from Slayer.
The recording quality on this album leaves something to be desired, with not enough density and weight behind the mix. The vocals are mixed too far up front and the vocalist isn't diverse or dynamic enough for this to work in the band's favor. That's not to say the vocalist isn't good, he's just very one-dimensional and this band could learn something about making lyrics flow with the music, because in listening to Breed Hate: Steer Fate and reading the lyrics, it seems as if the words were just pasted on top of the music without much thought of vocal-to-music arrangement.
The music is rather fierce and aggressive, yet it lacks strong numbers that would stand out from the rest. In other words, it has a pretty flat flavor overall. Like I said, it's not in the Slayer category. The musicianship is good and no glaring splinters stab you in the ear.
Give these guys some time. It seems that they have the raw elements to do better but in starting out they just haven't fathomed how to nail down their best songwriting yet.
