The Bonesin kolmas täyspitkä Straight Flush Ghetto on pitkälti sekoitus Total 13 -ajan Backyard Babiesia ja Glueciferia. Mukaan sekoitukseen voitaisiin laskea myös vähemmän tunnetut Icon Clan, Altar Boys ja Bad Machine.
The Bonesissa on se positiivista, että hemmoilla on tarpeeksi hyviä melodioita, joilla erottua vallalla olevasta garage rock -virrasta. Se taas on harmillista, että lähes jokainen biisi soitetaan saman kaavan mukaan samalla nopeudella, ja homma käy todella väsyttäväksi jo muutaman kuuntelukerran jälkeen.
Vokalisti Bonerilla (hyvänen aika...) on melko kulmikas tapa lausua englantia, ja se tekee miehestä helposti muista erottuvan. Musiikki on rivakkatahtista ja pentatoniseen skaalaan pohjautuvaa. Se ei sisällä mitään krumeluureja, vaan vain perustarpeet. Levyn parhaiden biisien määritteleminen onkin melkoinen jobi, kun joka tarjoilussa on samat mausteet pihvistä salaattiin ja jälkiruokaan. Jos nyt jokin biisi mitenkään muista erottuu, se voisi olla Never, jossa on supertarttuva kertosäe.
Alkakaahan siis laulaa, punkit!
The Bones’ third LP release Straight Flush Ghetto is pretty much a mix of Total 13 era Backyard Babies and Gluecifer with even a bit of more obscure stuff like Icon Clan, Altar Boys and Bad Machine in the mix.
On the plus side, these guys have enough good melodies to carry them through the garage rock mire and that gives them an edge in comparison to the bulk of other garage clones on the block. On the down side every song is pretty much played at the same speed with the same formula, and that can get mighty tiring after a few listens.
Vocalist Boner (good grief, whatta name!) has a pretty edgey way of prouncing his english, which is very distinct. The music is very upbeat and pentatonic. Nothing fancy, just the bare goods. It’s a job in itself to distinguish the best cuts out this potluck dinner, as there’s too much of the same spice in everything from the pork to the salad to the desert to really make a judgement call. But if you must pick a winner it very well may be Never, with it’s super-catchy chorus.
So start singing, ya punks!
