Jyväskylän Hayley's Royal Whores soittaa melodista goottirockia. Soittotaito on kohdillaan ja biisitkin ihan ookoo, mutta vokalisti kusee kaikkien muroihin elottomalla, lahjattomalla ulosannillaan. Väite on brutaali, mutta laulaja Pasi Crash on kaikkea muuta kuin kelvollinen rock'n' roll -nokkamies. Joko mies ei usko tipan tippaa siihen mitä laulaa tai sitten miehestä vain ei ole näihin hommiin. Eikä ukon englannin ääntämyskään ole sujuvinta kuulemaani.

Levyn läpi kuuntelemiseen meni muutama yritys, sillä edellä kuvaamani heikkoudet haittaavat kuuntelukokemusta niin paljon. Ensimmäinen biisi, missä keulahahmo Crash ottaa riskin ja antaa palaa on City of Light, joka on tässä mielessä lähestulkoon virkistävä tuulahdus. Discoteque Trannyn musiikki ja perustukset ovat goottimielessä ihan kelvot ja joissain melodioissakin on potentiaalia, mutta osaa lyriikoista vaivaa naiivius, ja se ei lupaa hyvää. Levyn parhaat biisit ovat nimikkoraita sekä Saloon of Satan, joista jälkimmäisessä lienee enemmän lupaavuutta valoisan rokkiviban ja simppelin melodian vuoksi, jossa on melkeinpä 80-luvun new waven makua.

Vokalististakin tulee hiukan siedettävämpi levyn loppua kohden, mutta kyllä tässä kokonaisuutena on kysymys osaavasta orkesterista vailla kelvollista laulajaa, ja se näkyy isosti levyn arvosanassa.

Jyväskylä's Hayley's Royal Whores plays melodic goth rock. The musicianship is alright, and the songs themselves are okay, but the vocalist spoils the fun for everyone with lifeless and talentless delivery. It's a brutal statement to make, but singer Pasi Crash is far from being a viable rock and roll frontman. Either he doesn't believe a single iota in what he is presenting, or then he just doesn't ”have it”. In addition, his pronunciation isn't the smoothest English out there.

It took a few listens of this album to make it all the way through, because the aforementioned minuses detract that much from the overall experience. The first song where frontman Crash takes a chance and lets it rip is City of Light, which is almost a breath of fresh air in that respect. The music and basic foundation here is pretty decent in the goth sense, and some of the melodies have a lot of promise, although some of the lyrics carry a definitive naivette, which doesn't translate well. The best songs here are the title track and Saloon of Satan, the latter of which perhaps has the most potential here, with an upbeat, rocking vibe and simple melody that is almost '80s new wave in flare.

The vocalist becomes a bit more bearable towards the end of the album, but overall this band is a case of an able orchestra sans a capable vocalist, and that takes the grade down a whole lot.
