Defusen uutukainen Bangkok Addiction on likainen, sisukas ja riehakas heavy rock -risteily, jolla on kiistatta hetkensä. Asia, joka minua kuitenkin bändin soinnissa häiritsee, on vokalistin turhan nasaali ääni. Pidemmän päälle laulusoundi alkaa häiritä ainakin itseäni ja se tuntuu muutenkin valtaavan liian paljon alaa kokonaisvaikutelmassa, mikä ei tietenkään ole hyvä juttu.

Bangkok Addictionilta löytyy muutamia kohokohtia, mutta kokonaisuutena levy on jokseenkin tasapaksu. Siisti groove nostaa paikoin päätään, kuten Adriftissä ja Cross The Linessa. Hyvistä kertosäkeistä voisi mainita Done My Timen ja Back to the Undergroundin. Flying Colours erottuu joukosta puolestaan vääristä syistä, koska biisin kertosäe on yksinkertaisesti ärsyttävä, eikä c-osan alleviivatun nasaali laulukaan nosta bändin pisteitä.

Sanoisin, että Defuse toimisi paremmin toisella laulajalla ja mietitymmillä, rytmisemmillä sanoituksilla, jotka sulautuisivat paremmin riffipohjaisiin kappaleisiin.

Defuse's newbie Bangkok Addiction is a dirty, gritty and boisterous heavy rock ride that has its moments. The one thing that really nags me about this band is the nasally-congested sound of their vocalist. In the long haul, that sound starts to wear on my nerves and I find it overshadows the music to a large degree where I filter everything through the vocal channel, and that is not a good thing.

Some of the songwriting and arrangements are better thought-out than others, but overall Bangkok Addiction is pretty homogenous throughout. Some cool grooves here and there, such as is prevalent in Adrift and Cross The Line per se. Some good choruses like in Done My Time and Back to the Underground too. The one song that stands out above others for the wrong reasons is Flying Colours, as the chorus is just plain annoying, and with overtly pressing the nasal sound in the C-part of this song it sure doesn't do the band any favors.

Overall I'd say Defuse would work better with a different vocalist and more thought-out, rhythmic lyrics that would groove along with the riff-oriented tunes.
