AC/DC:n huikean uran iltaruskossa monet pikkuperkeleet ovat yrittäneet suorittaa jonkinlaista vallankaappausta tai ainakin pyrkineet jatkamaan tuon legendan jalanjäljissä. Eräs näistä yhtyeistä on Big Ball, joka liittyy mm. Airbournen ja Bulletin tähdittämään seuraajajoukkoon.

AC/DC:n viba ja poljento ovat ovat läsnä heti Double Demon -avausraidasta lähtien. Porna Lisa, Mona Lisan kauniisti sanottuna halvempi sisarpuoli, ylistää puolestaan naiseuden narttumaisempaa puolta. Kokonaisuus on suoraviivaisen rokkaava, ja muutamia varsin tarttuvia riffejäkin on mukaan eksynyt, kuten myös monipuolisempia, iskevämpiä raitoja Free Fire Zonen tapaan. Rehellisesti sanottuna Big Ball alkaa kuitenkin nopeasti toistamaan itseään, sillä laulussa ei ole juurikaan väriä - ainakin sävy on sama biisistä toiseen. Siinä missä AC/DC:n Brian Johnson käyttää ääntään sopivan vaihtelevasti biisien tyylin vaatimalla tavalla, Big Ballin ilmaisussa ei samaa notkeutta ole.

Big Ball ei siis nouse samaan tähtikaartiin kuin jo mainitut Bullet ja Airbourne, mutta ei tätä bändiä kannata pelkällä olankohautuksellakaan ohittaa. Seuraavalla levyllä purenta voi olla jo kovempi ja omaleimaisempi. Ei tämä tällaisenakaan ole huonoa, mutta kieltämättä tämä on ennemmin haaleaa kuin Hotter Than Hellia.

In the eventide of AC/DC's illustrious career, many demon spawns have arisen to try and claim their throne or at least continue their sound and heritage. One such outfit is Big Ball, who join a litany of modern-day contemporaries in the same vein such as Airbourne and Bullet.

Opening with Double Demon, the AC/DC vibe and stomp is present from the onset. Porna Lisa, an obvious trampy outtake on the Mona Lisa, glorifies the sluttier elements of womanhood. Pretty straightforward rock, with some catchy riffs thrown in, and even a few more eclectic punchy numbers like Free Fire Zone. Truth be told, Big Ball becomes a bit redundant, as the vocals don't really have much color after a few songs of the same old same old. Whereas AC/DC's Brian Johnson tends to apply his voice to his band's songs so that there is some diversity vocally from tune to tune, Big Ball fails to do so.

Plugged In once again works due to the vocals synching with the riff beat for beat, plus the song rolls with energetic kick that is an inkling more than many others on the album. Then again, there are tunes like Rock n' Roll Stomper that are bland beyond description, making for an agonizing listen. Album closer Riding With The Devil could have used a different arrangement to the chorus, or then another approach vocally once again. While trying to sound like AC/DC, some specific ingredient is missing and it can be heard.

Big Ball doesn't quite make the same grade as Bullet or Airbourne, but give them time. On the next round they just might up the ante and add some potency of their own in the process. Not bad this time around, Hotter Than Hell falls into the lukewarm temperatures.
